FIRE FIGHTER/PM DISTRICT 1 WINNER

Fire Fighter/Paramedic Winner MD District 1

Michael Clark

In response to your request for a nominee to be recognized as the local Fire Department Employee of the Year. I am suggesting Fire Fighter/Paramedic Michael Clark ID# 21579 of Station 825 in Clinton (not to be confused with Fire Fighter Mickey Clark of the same station and shift). FF/PM Clark has impressed his superiors and coworkers alike. I personally had the opportunity to observe his performance on March 25th,2017, when he answered a call for a gentleman in cardiac arrest. Below is a copy of the letter written to the Battalion Chief in reference to this incident.

"This morning units were sent to a CPR call in Co 825's area. Engine 825 arrived first and confirmed they had a cardiac arrest. I arrived shortly afterward and provided assistance as Medic 825 arrived just after myself and provided further care. Ambulance 824 utilized their Lucas CPR device and assisted during this incident. Before leaving scene, return of spontaneous circulation [ROSC) had been achieved. The patient was transported to Southern Maryland Hospital where he continued to have a pulse well after units restocked and left the hospital. All participants did an excellant job, however, I was particularly impressed with Paramedic Intern Michael L Clark from Medic 825. In my opinion, he was the epitome of what para-medicine is all about Calm, professional, focused and in this case, successful at his objective."

This is just one example of the fine work Michael Clark has displayed. Paramedic Sarah Brewster is Michael's partner and preceptor (paramedic trainer} and she is equally impressed with his abilities and attitude toward the profession he has choosing to pursue.

I hope this is in line with the objective of the VFW's desire to celebrate one of our local fire service personnel. As of this time, FF/PM Clark nor any of his superiors or coworkers are aware of any potential plans to provide him with any recognition. I did seek and receive the approval of this suggestion through my supervisor, Battalion Chief Bryan Spies.

Any formal notification of tour intent to present an award should go to FF/PM Clark’s

Battalion supervisor. His name is Battalion Chief 887 - Lance Hagood and he can be reached during weekdays between 7am and 3pm at 240-508-4932.

Sincerely,

Lt Stephen Brown
